ICYMI: These two names were left off the records for retirement payouts…

An OPRA request was submitted for the retirement payouts for all BOE employees from 2008 thru 2018.  Records for the years 2010 thru 2018 were provided in response to the request.  Neither Joseph Capizzi nor Emil Carafa are listed.  Click on the link below:

Any retirement payouts in the time period from when I received my OPRA response (beginning of May 2018) to now should have appeared on the last page of the bills for the June 27, 2018 agenda.  Neither Joseph Capizzi nor Emil Carafa appeared on the last page of the bills (page 96 in the link below).

When Joseph Capizzi retired, he was responsible for issuing the payouts.  After he retired, Marc Capizzi became responsible for issuing the payouts.

Marc Capizzi did not give a straight answer at a meeting when questioned why his father’s name and retirement payout did not appear anywhere.

On Wednesday, he did not provide an explanation why Mayor Carafa’s name and payout have not appeared anywhere.

If they are going to claim that they never received any compensation for any unused sick and vacation days or other type of payout before or after their dates of retirement, then an auditor should review all payouts and certify that conclusion.

The Open Public Records Act is the law and should treated as such.
