“The Sopranos” was a disgusting show. It glorified characters that represented the
worst elements of society. It portrayed Italians in a bad light.
Long time Lodi politicians celebrated that HBO put
their town on the map.
From a 1999 northjersey.com article:
"I
didn't even know they were filming in Lodi until [Sunday] night," Lodi
Mayor Gary Paparozzi said. "I hope they put Lodi in the credits."
Yes, Lodi's mayor actually wants his town identified with a fictitious mob-owned bar. His reason is simple: It's only Hollywood.
"People love `The Godfather,' `Casino,' `Scarface'; they're entertaining and Academy Award winners," Paparozzi said. "It's not just gangsters watching them. Besides, I think they have something at the end in the credits that says characters and situations aren't real. It's only good news for Lodi."

In another old article online, this is how a Satin
Dolls events manager referred to Lodi:
"HBO
has been very good to us," she said. "It put us on the map. Lodi is just a bunch of happy
Italians. It's been very good for New Jersey."
Lodi deserves to be known for something better than “The
Sopranos”. It’s sad that some long time Lodi politicians
believe otherwise.
