Should opposing transparency and progress be a top priority for the Lodi mayor and council?

There are some pending legislative proposals to strengthen the Open Public Meetings Act and the Open Public Records Act.

Transparency is a good thing.  Access to public information is a good thing.

Some of the proposals would benefit Lodi.  For example: requirements for “subcommittees”.  Subcommittees should be required to keep minutes for meetings and make reports available to the public. Look at what Licata, Miller, Nardino, and Carbonetti did with their shady Lincoln School subcommittee.  They recommended that a structurally sound building be demolished (without reason).  I requested documents from their subcommittee and received nothing in return.  Reform is desperately needed.

On this month’s agenda, the Lodi mayor and council have a resolution opposing the legislative proposals.  This is unfortunate but not surprising.
