I asked the following questions tonight pertaining to
Donald Scorzetti’s new contract. You can
watch “Lodi Live” to see how your mayor and council operate.
Questions:
Four
years ago, a Record headline read: “Lodi
police chief gets $342K retirement payout, mayor points to need for
reforms.”
Can you
please explain what reforms were discussed in the last four years and if any
were implemented for Donald Scorzetti’s new contract?
If Mr.
Scorzetti were to retire today, approximately what would his retirement payout
be under his new contract?
Has Mr.
Scorzetti taken any Borough vehicles to his shore house? Do you have anything in writing from any
insurance provider that would allow Mr. Scorzetti unlimited personal use of a
borough vehicle?
Emil Carafa had to correct himself after he said
Scorzetti was “grandfathered” (all the perks and excesses). Scorzetti
was NOT grandfathered. The State
advises towns to negotiate certain things out of new contracts to protect the
taxpayers. The “Best Practices”
questionnaire issued by the Department of Community Affairs provides some of
those suggestions.
No reforms were implemented with Scorzetti’s new
contract. Just a lot of hot air and
empty promises over the last four years.
Just minutes after approving the new chief’s contract,
Emil Carafa claimed he couldn’t approximate Scorzetti’s retirement payout if he
were to retire today.
Emil Carafa will have to get back to me regarding
Scorzetti’s unlimited personal use of borough vehicle and if Scorzetti is
taking his Tahoe to his shore house. He
will have to get back to me if the Borough has any insurance that would allow
that practice.
Vinny Marin stated that if Scorzetti has a Borough
vehicle down the shore, he can be at an emergency in Lodi. Vinny doesn’t realize that you can’t be in two
places at once, especially when two places are hours apart.
I asked about the town’s liability if Scorzetti were
to get in an accident down the shore while driving with family and
friends. It was very alarming that
nobody was able to provide an answer to a question of such seriousness.
Scorzetti gave a special thank you to Tony Luna. The “thank you” was much deserved. Tony Luna gave Scorzetti lots of special treatment
and the inside track when Scorzetti was named deputy chief in a very
controversial and questionable way.
