This was terribly disappointing to read today…

I would not have voted with four other board members to negotiate a contract with Matthew Giacobbe if I knew a partner in the firm would be Joseph Lagana (or any current member of the state legislature for that matter from either political party).  Lagana is a partisan county politician that currently serves as a state senator representing Lodi.  He has funneled special interest money into the campaign account of current BOE member Marc Schrieks.  He has done the same for all members of the current Lodi mayor and council.

This law firm is only going to soil its reputation with this political power play.  It’s like when Scarinci Hollenbeck made Joe Ferriero a partner or when Hackensack Hospital hired Joe Coniglio.  It’s all about influence peddling.

How many new public contracts in Bergen County does this firm plan on picking up by making Lagana a partner?

What is Lagana’s projected compensation for becoming a partner?  What was his income before joining the state legislature?  What will his income be this year?  Is Lagana willing to release his tax returns so the public can see how he has enriched himself through public office?

How about pay-to-play regulations for boards of education?

As a partner, Lagana will be making money from the Lodi Board of Education even though he isn’t the board attorney.  Lagana contributed $500 to Marc Schrieks’ campaign account less than one year ago.
