This time the strike wasn’t about pay. It was about the union’s opposition to
charter schools and education savings accounts for parents to pay for private
schools.
School days were cancelled today in West Virginia due
to the strike. The teacher union felt it
was more important to protest against competition and choice than it was to
educate students (thus making the case for more school choice and competition).
Despite getting its way today and having the WV House
table the legislation, the union announced its plans to strike for a second
day.
