Even without an increase in state aid for this school
year, Lodi is still receiving millions more than it did just a few years ago.
Lodi schools have been shut down for almost half a
school year. There should been an
obvious savings in big areas like busing, substitutes, utilities, extracurricular expenses
etc.
Some Wilson school parents were picking up packets
every few weeks left on tables in the parking lot so their children can do a
few minutes of busy work involving material they learned in September. In these cases, the children and their families
were cheated out of an adequate education.
The Lodi taxpayers were cheated out of their money.
For decades, the Capizzi/Quatrone administrations
delivered budgets full of waste and abuse.
The new superintendent and business administrator should have tried to
save money by addressing the waste and abuse from prior budgets. They should have addressed TJ Luna’s bad
business practices. Instead the new
business administrator spends his time trying to hide from the public how much “Giacobbe”
went over budget as "Giacobbe" was receiving millions in “small business” handouts from
the government.
For
these reasons, any tax increase in inexcusable. Marc Schrieks and others should learn how to
read a budget and learn how to tell the truth.
As for the above resolution, the municipal taxes would
be going through the roof if the Luna administration didn’t borrow millions
this year for the most basic borough expenses.
