Were They Representing the Borough or the Club?

The Lodi Mayor and Council approved a “lease agreement” with the Lodi Boys & Girls Club on November 22, 2011.  The result was $60,000 a year of Borough tax dollars transferred to the Club.

At the time of the vote, many conflicts of interest existed (as they do today).  The people at the table did not belong at the table.

1)  Marc Schrieks was on the Board of Directors of the Club.  He voted “YES”.

2)  Paula Fiduccia was the Vice President of the Board of Directors at the time.

3)  Alan Spiniello has been on the Club’s “Advisory Board” for years.  He was responsible for preparing the ordinance on behalf of the Borough.

4)  Patty Licata has her son employed by the Club.  Joe Licata has received very large pay raises at the Club since this vote took place.  (Being his employer is the recipient of Borough tax dollars, his compensation should be disclosed to the public.)

Hurricane Irene struck in August 2011.  The Club needed major repairs. Any individual or group could've made donations to rebuild.

It is not legal for the Borough to make donations.

The “lease agreement” coincided with the Club’s big fundraiser of October 2011.

The timing of the “lease agreement” gives the appearance that it was part of the Club’s fundraising push.

Other things that stand out in the ordinance:

The ordinance does not specifically state how the $60,000 figure was arrived at.

The initial lease was for two years.  At what public meetings was the lease renewed?
