From the article:
“School officials have said that, based on the average assessed home
valued at an estimated $246,431 in Hackensack, the average taxpayer will foot
an annual bill of about $309.
However, the agency states the language in the ballot question reads
that the proposal will cost the average household "$308 over 30 years."
The agency states the error misleads voters to believe that the proposal
will cost the average taxpayer $10 annually, as opposed to the impact of
about $300 annually.
Lara Rodriguez, the school board's president, confirmed the absence of
the two words when reached Monday by phone. She said the board and school
officials had explored correcting the error, but that it is too late to change
the wording of the ballot question. To change the wording, the board would have
had to gone to court last Friday, she said.”
Shame on the Hackensack BOE for
being so deceptive. Shame on the
Hackensack BOE for holding a referendum of that magnitude during a special
election in January. They do that
intentionally. They hope that it will
snow that day and nobody will show up to vote so a small handful of people can decide the
outcome they desire.
