“It
has to be a private matter and since it is a privately done matter it’s
interesting that public funds were used to pay for these ethics charges,” said
trustee Christian Smith.
At
a Board meeting Thursday night, Smith said about $4,700 in legal fees itemized
as pertaining to the ethics complaint billed by Machado Law Group from 2016,
should be reimbursed to the district and repaid privately.
Isabel
Machado, counsel to the board, said the board had not misappropriated any
funds.
“I am directing the business
administrator to issue a credit for the $4,700 you referenced,” Machado told Smith after a
discussion.
