This would expand the possibility of union membership to those never employed in public education, including activists with deep pockets. It is of dubious legality, as unions are created to represent employees in a certain field, not to wield political influence.

And

If Janus wins, unions could be crippled. Agency fees -- costs to public sector employees who do not join the union but are required to pay for their collective bargaining agreement -- would be eliminated.

This shows what the Lodi Mayor and Council think of Lodi residents…

There were many good applicants for the Lodi Borough Manager position that live in Lodi.  Many had strong backgrounds with relevant work experience.  Many volunteer in the community.  Many had good ideas to move Lodi forward.

Not one Lodi resident was even called for an interview.  Only three out of towners were called in for interviews. 

I understand that Vinny Caruso had the inside track because he is such close friends with Vinny Martin and Albert DiChiara.  He was also a loyal soldier of Joe Capizzi for years.  That has been a requirement for Borough employment.

Still, it was very disrespectful and insulting to not even call the Lodi residents with the right backgrounds in for an interview. 

This further shows how the Lodi Mayor and Council view Lodi residents.  Their choice of Vinny Caruso was predetermined and strictly political.
