BOE meeting:
Past board attorneys have stated that legal bills are
drawn up with the expectation that someone can request them via the Open Public
Records Act. Obviously, some redactions
are necessary in certain cases.
What was presented in this OPRA response was a new
strategy by the Giacobbe firm to hide the fact that it has been ripping off the
Lodi taxpayers since day one when Robert Brown signed the firm’s contract
without board approval.
The over-redactions were a clear violation of the Open
Public Records Act. The business office
should be embarrassed to present this to the public. The business office should also be embarrassed
to go over budget for legal bills when it is receiving inferior legal services
from a politician run law firm that thrives off of political pay-to-play abuses.
The bills are unreadable. I posted the bills to show the people of Lodi
that they are receiving less transparency today than they did before.
If Lodi hired a board attorney specializing in school
law and abiding by some form of ethical and professional standards, I wouldn’t
be OPRA-ing legal invoices. I submit
OPRA requests because I saw firsthand how unethical and dishonest this firm has
been with its initial presentation, contract, and billing.
All board members have the right to review Giacobbe's unredacted legal invoices. They see that Giacobbe has something to hide. They owe it to the taxpayers to provide a check on the firm's abusive actions.
