Also in Pinto’s Corner: NJ Department of Environmental Pollution

The following public notice was posted yesterday:

So I requested the draft permit and the fact sheet.  It can be viewed below.

Here is their conclusion:

What type of agency with the words “environmental protection” in its name would allow a transfer station to operate along a river and in a residential zone with such a high tonnage allowance?  What type of agency would pretend that there are no serious air, traffic, and noise problems?  The stench and traffic could not be any more out in the open and in your face.  How offensive and insulting to the residents of the avenues.

The following was listed in the public notice:

“Any interested person may submit written comments during this period to the Department concerning the draft permit action to: Anthony Fontana, Chief Bureau of Transfer Stations & Recycling Facilities New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste P.O. Box 420, Mail Code 401-02C Trenton, New Jersey 08625-0420 Upon written request of any interested party, which raises the issues of fact relevant to the proposed agency action within thirty (30) days of this publication, a public hearing will be scheduled regarding the proposed agency action.”

Marc Schrieks, Patty Licata, and Tony Luna should use their titles to do some good for a change.  They should each write a letter to Anthony Fontana arguing against a new permit with the tonnage listed.  They should force a public hearing.

Lodi deserves nothing less from them.
