It should be noted that despite an orchestrated effort
by Patty Licata to bully parents into showing support for the prison fences,
only one person spoke out publicly in support of them. That was Christie Vanderhook. For full disclosure, she is first cousins to Marc Capizzi and she doesn’t
live in Lodi.
The prison fences are so wonderful according to
Licata, Capizzi, and their relatives employed by Lodi. So you would think that the prison fences
would be placed at all the schools. But
Marc Capizzi said there are no plans for the other schools. Why?
Initially, BOE members said the high fences were installed to keep parents and everyone else on the outside. Well, the parents and everyone else are still standing on the inside.
There was no improvement with traffic flow. When Lodi has two police officers on the street, traffic flow may be better. And when the police officers are not on the street, traffic flow is just as bad if not worse.
As for the playground, children have less room to play and no longer have a half basketball court or anything else. Can you still call is a "playground"? Prisons offer more.
Cars should not enter where students are. That is not safe. Last year, teachers entered on Liberty. Ambulances entered on Liberty. Fire trucks entered on Liberty. All big deliveries entered on Liberty. Students had a playground where they lined up in the morning. It was separate from where cars entered yet those running Wilson had everyone walking through the parking area. Why?
If there were a fire today, a fire truck would be entering the same area where students are fleeing. And it would take an effort to unlock the sliding gate and get the truck through in a timely manner. How could a Board not have foreseen that? Didn't they not want students to be in the same area as passing vehicles?
Right now, the Lodi BOE has Jackie Serek standing by a "man gate" every morning, telling parents and children they cannot enter it. Everyone is scratching their heads and asking why? The "man gate" leads everyone to same place as the entrance a few feet down. If they could use her for something so pointless, why didn't they just use her and John Pinzone last year to have the students enter the playground away from the cars?
But that would have required common sense. That would have saved money. That would have been the safest option. That would have given the students a "playground". That would have made the community look nicer.
But that wouldn't have satisfied a personal vendetta.
