Miller and Vara sat silent when questioned.

I stated the following,

Last week, Mr. Miller and Mr. Vara sent out a mailing, giving themselves all “A’s” along with the following, “We challenge any candidate to match this record of achievement.”

I told the two that most things listed were from many years ago before either was on the Board.  I told them many things were made up.

I stated that they left out the $7.5 million administration building from their flier.  That was something they were on the Board for and took part in.  I asked, “Are you ashamed of it”.  Both sat silent.  Joe Licata (moving to North Haledon) said he is very proud of the project.  I asked Vara and Miller if Licata speaks for them.  They both nodded yes.

I told Miller that Hilltop was a “Title 1” school  (mostly inner city schools that show improvement in closing gaps) in 2011, but nobody could figure out what they were talking about when they wrote “Thomas Jefferson Middle School Named a National Distinguished School of Honor.”  Miller and Vara had no idea.  Mr. Quatrone said the Middle School also was a “Title 1” school before Hilltop so it was probably before 2010.

Neither Vara nor Miller were on the Board prior to 2010 and nobody could explain what they printed in their flier.

Why didn’t they write down that they were “Title 1” schools along with years?  Are they embarrassed?  Isn’t it a misrepresentation to use the words “National Distinguished School of Honor” when that is not the honor they received?
