For 2013, Marcel Wurms’pay as “Special Counsel” was
excluded from his reported salary to PERS.
His total reported salary to PERS for 2013 was $4,200 (emergency
management). This is good news for the
taxpayers of NJ.
However, as of April 7, 2014 (yesterday), the state
still has his recorded salary for 2012 at $49,133. This is Marcel Wurms’ 11th year in
the pension system. He can collect a
pension now. No year found on the
state’s records should report a salary more than $4,200.
Alan Spiniello stated the following at the September
18, 2012 regular council meeting (below is from the town’s minutes):
“We removed him retroactively July 1, 2008 which
means that person will be getting a refund for the amount that was taken out of
his pay, approx. 5% contribution on his payment and the Borough will be getting
back its contribution they made approx. 5% and any small amount the state has
made will be getting back their contribution as well. So from what we understand we are now in full
compliance.”
Lodi and the State clearly acknowledged they did something wrong because they changed his
numbers moving forward. But did they
fail to correct their mistakes in the past?
If Marcel Wurms decides to collect his pension today, will it be
inflated by the $70,000 and $49,133 figures that were never meant to be?
And on a different note, I recommend that Mr.
Spiniello be “pro-active” on Gary Paparozzi’s pension payments. Mr. Spiniello is going to look very bad if it is decided that Paparozzi
does not belong in PERS and Mr. Spiniello continues to publicly refuse to look
into the matter.
