Above is the resolution for Chief Caruso’s retirement payout. The resolution states that Caruso is ENTITLED to three months SEVERANCE pay that the council decided is $46,852.68.
All five
members of the council voted YES on this resolution. Marc signed the resolution.
Once again, Chief Caruso’s contract
does NOT mention any severance pay.
Please read the 17 pages for yourself.
Another serious discrepency is the
fact that they used $187,410.72 to calculate his severance pay when his
contract which was just adopted on February 18, 2014 lists his annual base salary for this
year at $167,331.00 (page 12 of contract).
That is more than a $20,000 difference. I assume they will attribute that to the 12% longevity payment they put in his contract. If so, how could they be allowed to add the longevity payment to his current base salary when calculating the severance?
And what type of record keeping was used to
keep track of all those unused days? Who
was the record keeper? What process was
used? After all, that seems like an
awful lot of unused days for someone who’s contract doesn’t even have a defined
work week or a defined work day.
I would hope that Chief Caruso is
not taking something that he is not entitled to. I would hope that the mayor and council are
not granting him something that is not contractual. Was $295,528 too little to walk away with?
This isssue is not over. Questions need to be answered now. This will not end with Caruso. Luna plans on getting a similar payout for
himself.
If something was done wrong here (which I believe was), all
parties involved should be held accountable.
